| About Me | Nancy Denis is the creator, writer, and performer of M’ap Boulé, a powerful one-woman show blending storytelling, song, and poetry. The title, Haitian Creole for “I’m on fire,” reflects both the fiery spirit of the Haitian Revolution—the first successful slave uprising that led to the creation of the first Black republic—and Denis’s personal journey of self-discovery, self-love, and belonging as a Haitian-Australian woman navigating her identity in a culturally white Australia. The show explores her experiences growing up as a child of immigrants, her struggles with mental health—including psychosis linked to identity and body image—and her embrace of her Black, Queer, and Haitian heritage. M’ap Boulé is not a traditional musical but a play with songs, featuring original music composed by the late Carl St. Jacques, and performed with a supporting ensemble including Victoria Falconer, Kween G, and Mick Stuart, who help amplify the themes of culture, resistance, and connection. The performance has been staged at major venues including Darlinghurst Theatre, Theatre Royal (Hobart), and Queanbeyan’s The Q, with recent performances confirmed through August 2025. As of March 2026, the show continues to tour, with Denis also involved in new projects including directing a TikTok series and hosting Supper Club |
